 Malaysian context

Malaysia is a fascinating country to visit and as the first LRTT fellowship you will have a unique opportunity to shape the programme. In a country of contrasts, 1 in 5 students do not finish secondary school. Collaborate with local teachers to share global learning on education and teacher development.

Our objectives

We will support to implement the country's Education Blueprint which focuses on '21st Century Learning'. This is the beginning of a long-term program with teachers exchanging ideas through workshops, observations and coaching. Working at district level will enable sustainable change as district officials will also be part of the training and develop their coaching skills.

The programme

Teach For Malaysia

We will work with Teach for Malaysia and Penang District Education office to plan the new training programme in line with their specific needs. The District is very excited to welcome a team of international teachers.

Phase 1

You will fly into Penang and spend the first few days settling into your new home of Georgetown which has some of the best street food in Asia. You will visit schools to start to understand the education context and learn from some amazing school transformation projects being run by Teach for Malaysia alumni.

Phase 2

After planning the training you will run a series of workshops for over 100 teachers from across Penang. You will then spend time visiting your group of 10 teacher in their schools to observe them and provide coaching. You will also support the district education officers to improve their own coaching skills so that ideas and strategies from the training continues after you leave.

Phase 3

This trip will finish with a chance to explore and relax on some of Malaysia’s incredible islands. You will be able to reflect on what your team has achieved in only three weeks and the legacy you have started.

The experience

Malaysia is a wonderfully diverse country. You will experience incredible hospitality, culinary delights and relaxing beaches as well as passionate teachers and students. You will also be pioneers for LRTT as you take part in the first Malaysia fellowship.

For any returning LRTT Fellow, joining the Fellowship in Malaysia is a chance to join a team that will pioneer teacher training in Penang and establish partnerships with teachers and schools that LRTT can build on for years to come.
